The Austin Steam Train offers railroad tours of Texas Hill Country. Wine aficionados can take on the Thirsty Oaks Wine Trail, a tour of four local vineyards and wineries. The H-E-B Center is a massive indoor sports arena, home to the Texas Stars hockey team and the Austin Spurs basketball team, also hosts concerts and other events year-round. In Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, just a 20-minute drive west of Cedar Park, outdoor enthusiasts will find hiking, wildlife viewing, and seasonal hunting.

For the shoppers, 1800 Ranch and the Lakeline Mall are both large shopping centers with numerous shops, restaurants, and service locations. Another major retail center, the Parke, is slated to open in the near future.

The city’s human history officially dates back to the Neolithic period, thanks to the 1983 discovery of a skeleton dubbed the “Leanderthal Lady.” Carbon dating and other age estimate procedures lead researchers to believe that she roamed central Texas around 8,000 BCE. The Wilson-Leonard Brushy Creek Site where she was found now bears a historical marker. Other historic sites in Cedar Park commemorate the achievements of pioneers and 19th century settlers.

Cedar Park Schools

Most Cedar Park students attend the excellent Leander Independent School District, including Cedar Park and Vista Ridge high schools. Cedar Park High receives a stellar nine out of 10 rating by the school ranking website Great Schools, and their marching band and football team have won state titles. A small area of the city is served by the Round Rock Independent School District. The city has a 93 percent high school graduation rate.

The Cypress Creek campus of the Austin Community College is located in Cedar Park. Other nearby colleges include Virginia College in Austin and Concordia University Texas.
