Where is Klahanie Located?

To get to the community of Klahanie, from Seattle take I90 East. Exit 17 at East Lake Sammamish Pkwy SE and turn north under the interstate. Shortly after I90, turn right/east on SE Issaquah-Fall City Rd. The main entrance on Klahanie Drive will be on the left in approximately 1.5 miles. Klahanie is not within the city limits of Issaquah; the neighborhood has been considered a possible annexation area since 2003, though Issaquah voters turned down annexation in 2005.

Yellow Lake

Klahanie Community CenterYellow Lake is a small lake in the center of Klahanie. There are numerous trails around the lake which supports an abundance of birds and wildlife - including beavers. The surrounding forest and wetlands support more than 100 species of birds, coyotes, little brown bats, shrews, deer, and even the occasional cougar and black bear.

Native wetland plants consist primarily of various willows and spirea. The forest surrounding the lake and wetlands include Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Western Hemlock, Pacific Madrone, Black Cottonwood, Indian Plum, and Oregon grape. The Yellow Lake area provides residents of Klahanie great opportunities for watching and enjoying the many birds and other wildlife that visit Yellow Lake.

Klahanie Shopping Center

The Klahanie Shopping Center is the main shopping area for most of the residents of Klahanie. The shopping center is anchored by a QFC grocery store and contains over 30 stores. Stores and services include four restaurants and sandwich shops, dentists, a bank, coffee shops and numerous other service and specialty stores.

Klahanie Schools

Klahanie is also home to two public schools, Challenger Elementary and Beaver Lake Middle School, both of which are part of the highly-rated Issaquah School District. Both Klahanie schools are located adjacent to the neighborhood ark.

Challenger Elementary School was built specifically to serve the neighborhood, and as a result, only kindergarten and special education students ride school buses each day. This neighborhood feel contributes to active participation by parents, an important reason families choose to call Klahanie home. Beaver Lake Middle School was one of the District's first schools to launch a Respect and Responsibility program. WASL scores in reading, writing, mathematics, and science are consistently among the highest in Washington State.
