MJ Neal was a founding member of the sustainable coalition and green building program in Austin and the house is oriented and fabricated for passive solar energy efficiency, allowing sun inside in winter and keeping it out during summer. It allows the home to have different expressions throughout the seasons via the light and working within the climate. MJ has also designed and built the custom shelving and cabinetry and the furniture was made expressly for the home.

The layout is one floor with a sunken living space, with custom metal fireplace, opening to Hill Country views with a contemporary galley kitchen and a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom and a flex space/study space. There is ample space to expand on top of the garage and below the house, which has standing room storage space.

Recent upgrades and features to the home include a brand new custom color standing seam metal roof, a reverse osmosis system, new water softener and whole house filter, and closed cell spray-in soy foam insulation, which is also a fire retardant, under pier and beam section.

A cooling and romantic walkout deck designed around the existing oaks, provides pocket view of Lake Travis and enjoyment from the south east breeze that kicks in on summer nights.
